Long Live Bush + Gill!

Posted 597 days ago by Nirmala Basnayake

Controllers reunite for love!

We were but five of the many proud guests in attendance at the wedding of Linda Noelle Bush and Alan Anthony Gill on November 10, 2006. Congratulations to the beautiful bride and groom! They proved that City Hall marriages aren't necessarily dull, and that you can indeed have a fantastic, inclusive reception at a downtown bar. (Thank you, Beaver!)

I apologize for the lack of photos of the wedding ceremony; hopefully I made up for that with the wedding reception pictures, in sheer volume if not actual quality. You'll notice that the big day was truly a labour of love, with friends lending their talents to the affair. To name just a few: Davida Nemeroff as official photographer; Will Munro as one of the reception hosts; Reg Vermue as one of the bartenders; and Jay Ferguson, Ronnie Morris and Jeff Scheven as DJs. Note also that Linda's perfect hair and make-up was put together by Samantha Hilts, and that Vanessa Fischer created Linda's amazing cape, complete with fleur-de-lys lining and gryphon-head clasp.

Everybody seemed to have fun that day, which (honestly) is a rare sight at weddings. It was great to see a totally relaxed bride! Also, for me - in addition to the good time - it was wonderful to see the guys again. There were certainly a lot of people whom I'd missed, and it was lovely to meet them again, but I was particularly happy that c.c showed up in full effect. We were there in London when our very own Bush XX met the charming Mr Gill, so we were honoured to be there last Friday, witnessing the two of them declare their union in a whole new way.

All the best to you, Linda and Alan.

Witness the event for yourself.

This little tour of ours. (It's half-time!)

Posted 656 days ago by Scott Kaija

Just an update of sorts. We're having a lovely time on the current Ontario tour. Playing with you say party! we say die! is never dull and TrackDirtyaz and The D'Urbervilles have both been amazing. This is probably the last touring we'll do for quite a while so come out and say hi.

RIP DFA(79)

Posted 684 days ago by Nirmala Basnayake

In light of Jesse and Sebastien's recent break-up, I thought this might be the right time to share some photos from our 2005 North American tour with Death From Above 1979. It was a great experience with a lot of firsts: the first time we played beyond the northeastern United States, not to mention the first time we played the Canadian prairies and west coast; the first time we played South By Southwest, which lived up to its massive hype; and the first time we toured for more than a week-and-a-half (two months, to be sort of exact). That year-and-a-half seems so long ago!

We were a relatively young band at the time - we still are, I suppose - and DFA79 were fine mentors. We had the privilege of playing in larger clubs to larger crowds, as well as the privilege of dressing rooms and riders. It was all new to us and we loved it.

I've been meaning to post these photos for quite some time, but I was worried that the scans might not be of the highest quality. (The pictures were taken before I had the use of a digital camera.) I think black-and-white photos have an inherent beauty, though, so I didn't alter them at all. (This might be obvious given the abundance of dust specks.) There was some posing involved, though it should be noted that it was solely Dizzee Rascal's decision to don a ballcap before having his photo taken. I'm not sure why; he had a pretty nice fade happening. Also, the "Fighting in Phoenix" episode was not staged.

Hopefully these pictures will tell as many stories as we have from that tour. Death From Above (1979), you will be missed.

Posted 700 days ago by Scott Kaija

I just posted new September dates! We're playing 10 shows with our buddies, You Say Party! We Say Die! We've also invited our friends in TrackDirtyaz and The D'Urbervilles to play on these. We won't be touring these parts again for a while, so don't miss out.

As for "Poison/Safe"...

Posted 726 days ago by Nirmala Basnayake

...the video is in the works. Soon (or soon-ish) it will be posted on our site! Until then, please enjoy some stills from the "Poison/Safe" video shoot.

All I kept thinking was: "How do beekeepers keep from fainting?" It was a hot weekend and we were wearing thermal shorts under our suits. Worse off were the Keepers (Linda, Sam, Kevin the PA and Derek) and The Beast (Ronnie's brother Scott and Kevin the PA again). Their faces were covered as well! You know mascots throw up in their helmets all the time, right? Hats off to our co-stars.

Find us behind the scenes.

Surviving The Cult

Posted 765 days ago by Nirmala Basnayake

Sometimes pictures really are worth thousands of words. However, if you need further explanation, feel free to post your question (aka Add Your Comment) below.

(One very good query would be: “Why are there no pictures of Brandon, the lovely gentleman who worked the monitors so well for the entire tour?” Of course the answer would be that Nirmala messed up, spending most of her time taking photos of Billy Duffy.)

See for yourself here, here, and a little bit here.
